The King

Chess KingThe King is probably the easiest piece to move.  It just moves 1 square in any direction. 

It can move Up, Down, Right, Left, or Diagonally.

The king can attack and take a piece that is within this one square.  So if your opponent is right next to your king, you can take that piece.  If no one is right next to your king, you can move onto that space.  If another one of your pieces is right next to your king, you cannot move on to that square.

If your opponent takes your king, you lose the game.  More on this in How To Play.

The king also has one special move called Castling.
